Summer 2025 Independent Research Group

Apply as a mentor for Summer 2025!

April 15, 2025 - Youth STEM Initiative and Research Girl, Inc. have launched the mentor applications for our first ever Independent Research Group!

Taking place this summer and beginning mid-June, this 2-month research mentorship program pairs students with professional researchers who are adept with the research life cycle. In this program, students get to to conduct their own independent research project on a scientific topic of choice from start to finish, acquiring guidance from their mentors along the way. The program curriculum will culminate in the opportunity for each student to present their research at the Independent Research Group Symposium in mid-August.

Mentee Criteria

Have a clear, independent research idea with a proposed hypothesis and methodology.
Be able to conduct their project without access to a lab (e.g., using surveys, existing datasets, literature reviews).
Be willing to grow, learn, and remain open to feedback from their mentor.
International students welcome, but proficiency in English is required. International mentees should also know that time zone and scheduling difficulties will be taken into account in the application process.
